Hi All,
C-Band TVRO in North America is now hacked!
The PowerVu scrambling system has been reversed and all channels encrypted using this method can now be viewed.
About 70% of master broadcasts are secured with PowerVu and the rest using Digicipher II. That means about 700 channels (both SDTV and HDTV) are open.
There is a long thread about this topic at another fourm (do a google search).
By the way, this is NOT IKS. This is a legitimate E3M.
Please discuss here if you have more information.

pedro: how is it coming along???
coder: what you mean...
pedro: the powervu stuff...
coder: oh...PCBs out for fabrication...will have prototypes back in 3-4 weeks.
pedro: then what...testing?
coder: Uh, kind of...if hardware tests okay then I need to write some firmware for it...
pedro: will you be able to do a demo and open up some powervu channels???
coder: there is also the memory tables...half to transfer those over
pedro: then a demo?
coder: ...yeah, if no bugs...but there are always bugs!
pedro: but it will work right???
coder: of course...I can decode a few seconds of transport stream to prove it...but then I have to work hard on making it work in real time you know..
pedro: yeah I know...how about digicipher 2???
coder: way in the future...I am focused on powervu, but this method works on the others too but I need time...
pedro: would you update my friends on a north american forum abotu your work?
coder: yeah sure...
pedro: okk..thanks...peeps will love you, nothing open in NA right now..just IKS which sucks.
coder: give me till December and I will let people know about this new technology I created...not looking for fame or money...its just a hobby for me...
pedro: I know...thnks for your time.

pedro: how is it going?
coder: ok, I guess...
pedro: no, I mean the powervu descrambler?
coder: ohh...still waiting for PCBs...Chinese fab houses are so slooow
pedro: any other news?
coder: yeah, been working on the dsp code for this prototype that is coming...got a lot of work done...I think I can do a demo within a month
pedro: wow! that is fantastic...this is like such big news and the not a single fta site is talking about it
coder: well, lets keep it that way, huh? ...really don't want so much attention...told you, I am doing this for fun or shall we say to keep my sanity...when I solve problems, it takes my mind off other things, you know...I've spent 2 years on this and it will be done soon...
pedro: yeah, of course! Do you know anything about rainer satellite?
coder: rainier who?
pedro: never mind, they are an outfit that will be offering powervu subscriptions...your competition I guess..
coder: lol!
pedro: will you make this freeware?
coder: I want too, but they will have to download up to 1TB of emu table for it to work...can't be done easily over the net, even using a cloud service
pedro: why not?
coder: would take like 30 days to download data...and who would pay for it?
pedro: ohhh...that doesn't sound good.
coder: but data could be generated by end user...much like i generated it. Would take several days, but still, could be done that way.
pedro: cool, that solves that.
coder: well, kind of...it makes the hardware more expensive. How much are people willing to shell out? For $2K it can easily be done, but most people would probably only spend around $500 max.
pedro: don't know about that...nothing is open in north america right now and people love e3m descramblers.
coder: cloud upload would dramatically cut costs, but someone would have to run it and pay bandwidth...maybe charge $50 per download or something.
pedro: yeah, lots of possibilities..
pedro: will you come to tvrosat and talk to members about your new invention? they are a great crowd, totally into c band...also pretty low key forum
coder: yeah, sure...once i make some more progress...once its out there, people will start taking and it will spread all over the place...you know that.
pedro: yeah...
coder: okay, we'll talk later.
